Obituary for Ralph R. Bigelow

Ralph R. Bigelow
Ralph Bigelow, 95, of Camp Hill died of a broken heart on May 31, 2018.

Ralph was born in Washington, NJ on February 5, 1923 and was the son of Walter and Mabel (Smith) Bigelow. He graduated from Phillipsburg (NJ) High School in 1940 then attended Rutgers University before graduating from Cornell University in 1944 with a Mechanical Engineering degree. After attending the Navy's Midshipmen's School, he was commissioned an Ensign and served on PT 617, just two days before the end of World War II.

After the Navy, Ralph found employment with The Bell Telephone Company of PA, planning and designing telephone facilities for over 37 years. After retirement, he loved to travel with Helen, his wife of 69 years, who predeceased him in October 2017.

Ralph loved sports, competing in tennis and soccer while in college and then playing softball, bowling and tennis (until the age of 88). He also loved watching sports: Penn State, his beloved Phillies and his grandchildren's games. He was very involved with his church, serving in the choir, as landscape coordinator for many years and was twice elected Council President. He also served as President of the Camp Hill Little League in 1962, overseeing the construction of the three College Park baseball fields.

Ralph is survived by his brother Kenneth (Barbara) of Washington, NJ, his son Bruce (Nancy), daughters Kathy Palmer (Milton) and Patty Wissing (Dennis), grandchildren Paul, Paulette, Melissa, Jeremy, Mindy, Timothy, Jeffrey and Hannah, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill, PA, with Pastor Jack Horner officiating. The service will be followed with a luncheon and visitation in the church Fellowship Hall. Myers-Harner Funeral & Cremation Services, Camp Hill, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to his church's Restricted Endowment Fund or Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg PA 17110.
