Obituary for Helen B. Bigelow (Bender)
Helen Bender Bigelow, 90, of Camp Hill, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
Helen was born in Harrisburg on April 14, 1927, and was the daughter of Harry Bender and the granddaughter of Edna Bender (whom she called Mom). She graduated from William Penn High School in 1945.
After high school, she worked for Bell Telephone Company for a short time, then became a full time Mom and homemaker. Helen Was involved in many activities during her life including 25 years at Contact Helpline, Sunday School Teacher, girl scout leader, and started a Church sponsored tutoring program. She loved singing in Church choirs enjoyed gardening, candle making, painting, traveling, and above all, family.
Helen is survived by her husband Ralph, to whom she was married for over 69 years, her son Bruce (Nancy), daughters Kathy Palmer (Milton), and Patty Wissing (Dennis), grandchildren Paul, Paulette, Melissa, Jeremy, Mindy, Timothy, Jeffrey, and Hannah, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill, on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. The service will be followed with a luncheon and visitation in Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to her church, Contact Helpline, PO Box 90035, Harrisburg, PA 19109, or Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17110.
The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Myers-Harner Funeral & Cremation Services.
