Walter B.  Pond
Walter B. Pond, 94, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away on Monday December 11, 2017 at Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg, PA.
Born on June 29, 1923 in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Ross and Ella (Crum) Pond, and he was the widower of Doris (Hetherington) Pond.
Walter was a 1943 graduate of William Penn High School. He went on to serve in the US Army Air Force during WWII. He served in the Philippines and New Guinea with the 345th Bomb Group. He was a retired pressman at the Boyertown Packaging Co. in Harrisburg (formerly the Evangelical Press.) Walter was a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill. He was a neighborhood caretaker, he would spend his free time tending to the yards and property of many of his neighbors. Walter enjoyed raising Azaleas and was a fisherman.
He is survived by a son, W. Bernard Pond and his wife Ann, of Middletown, MD; one grandson, Hayden Pond, of Arlington, VA; and a sister, Vera Sheaffer, of Mechanicsburg.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ross Pond, Jr., and Marlin Pond, and one sister, Esther Pond.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday December 15, 2017 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut St., Camp Hill, PA, with Pastor Jack Horner officiating. A visitation will be held in the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill, PA. Myers-Harner Funeral & Cremation Services, Camp Hill, PA, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
