Lauretta S.  Jordan (Sweigart)
Lauretta Jordan passed peacefully at home February 7, 2018. She was born in Harrisburg, PA April 8, 1927 to Sue Hill and Harry Sweigart. As a child the family lived in McVeytown and New Cumberland PA. Lauretta graduated from New Cumberland High School in 1945 and got her R.N. decree from Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. Lauretta worked as surgical nurse at Harrisburg until 1952. While at Harrisburg Hospital she met a young intern – Dr. Herbert Jordan. Lauretta and Herb were married at the Old Salem Reformed Church in Harrisburg on May 26, 1951. Dr. Jordan passed in 2014.
Lauretta was active in the Camp Hill Jr. Civic Club and served as its President in 1958. She also was active in the Dauphin County Medical Society Alliance and the Pennsylvania Medical Society Auxiliary and served as president of both organizations in 1974 and 1980 respectively. Later she served on the Board of Directors of the American Medical Association Alliance. Lauretta also loved to play bridge and played in several bridge clubs over the years where she met many good friends. She also was a member of the West Shore Elks Club where she loved to play bingo and a former member of the West Shore Country Club and Trinity Lutheran Church of Camp Hill.
Lauretta and Herb Jordan had wonderful life together and travelled to many fabulous places with their friends and family. They also loved to spend time with their dear friends at the beach in Ocean City, NJ and Ocean City, Md. They had four children – Herb (and Shelia), Bob, Laurie and Jan (and Glenn) Hoffner, six grandchildren – Natalie (and Sean) Sutcliffe, Casey (and Kirsti) Jordan, Nick Jordan, Zac Jordan, Grant Hoffner and Bekah Hoffner and six great-grandchildren – Jack and Jayma Sutcliffe, Wilson Jordan, and Claire, Parker and Chase Jordan. Lauretta loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very proud of them. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Sweigart and his wife Daisy. They will all miss her very much.
A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Saturday February 17, 2018 at Word of Life Chapel, 27 Fellowship Dr., Halifax, PA 17032. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the Chapel with Pastor Robert Baer officiating. Burial will be held following the service in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
