Obituary for Robert B. Rehman Sr.
Robert Bernard Rehman Sr. joined the love of his life, his wife of 65 years, Elaine Ann Rehman, in heaven on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.
Known to friends and family as Bob, Bernie, Dad, Pop Pop, and Pappy, he was a loving father of 4, grandfather of 12, and great-grandfather of 20. He loved God and his family.
Born February 26, 1930, in Pottsville, PA, to Emma and Bernard Rehman, he spent his early years in Harrisburg, graduating from William Penn High School. A born salesman, he began his career selling Olan Mills packages door to door, then moving on to Miller’s Furniture in 1947. He married Elaine in 1951, and they moved to Geneva, NY, where Bob served in the Air Force as Sergeant and Instructor until his honorable discharge in 1955. During that time, Bob and Elaine started a family that would ultimately grow to include Robert Bernard Jr., Virginia Marie, Stephen Craig, and Douglas William.
In 1955, Bob began a storied career with Capital Products, covering the U.S. selling storm doors and single-glazed aluminum windows. His work with Capital took him to Oak Park, IL., and later back to Central Pennsylvania. In 1964, Bob became a manufacturing representative, representing Benchmark Entrance Doors, Showerfold Enclosures, and many other lines over the years. In 1967, he was hired by Metal Industries as their first salesman selling screens. Bob’s three sons joined the sales team, creating Robert B. Rehman & Sons. He became a teacher and mentor, setting the bar high to become the best in window sales. Before his retirement, Robert B. Rehman & Sons reached a billion in sales.
Bob had varied interests and was an active member of the community. He served as Little League coach and Sunday School teacher for children and adult classes. Even as his job took him across the country, he was actively involved with his children, attending their sporting events and activities. As the grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along, he was an avid spectator whether it be sports, drama, music, or dance. He was a member of the Shriners, the American Legion, and the Masons. He loved fishing, golf, and bowling, and he had a passion for baseball, which he passed down to his children and grandchildren.
He remained in Camp Hill until moving to Florida to retire, living on the beach on Treasure Island and then in downtown St. Petersburg. While there, Bob and Elaine embraced the Tampa Bay Rays. In 2008, they celebrated the Rays making it to the American League Championship Series by watching from their season ticket seats. He was also a lifelong Cubs fan, and he never gave up hope that the Cubs would win the pennant—that dream came true in 2016.
Bob and Elaine returned to Central Pennsylvania to be closer to family in 2015. They settled at Country Meadows in Mechanicsburg, where they made lasting connections with residents and staff. Bob was given the honorary title of “the Mayor” of Country Meadows, as he knew everyone and everything going on. As the years progressed, he was promoted and was affectionately called “The Governor.” He made great friends at Country Meadows and was loved and respected by residents and staff alike.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, Emma and Bernard Rehman, sister Marie Rehman Masimer, and his wife Elaine Rehman. He leaves behind a legacy of love, including 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Fred Rehman, his son Robert Rehman and wife Connie of Silver Spring, MD, and their children Carolyn Rehman and her fiancé Ron Ruffner, Ryan Rehman, and Brooke Rehman; daughter Virginia Capp and husband Jeffrey of Camp Hill, PA, and their children Amanda Forr and husband John and their children Ruby, Josephine, and Samuel, Nathaniel Capp and wife Andrea and their children Oliver and Ellis, and Emily Lucas and her husband James Lucas and their children Gabriel, Winifred, Sullivan, and Seamus; son Stephen Rehman and his wife Kim of Ocean City, MD, and their children Stephanie Dunn and her children Jaden, Eli, and Noah, Amber Lewis and her husband Ethan and their son Matthew, and Addison Rehman; and son Douglas Rehman and his wife Sandra of Mechanicsburg, PA, and their children Michael Rehman and his wife Stefanie and their children Harper and Olivia, Kristi Colwell and her children Natalie, Aubrey, and Peyton, and Jennifer Kirker and her husband James and their children Nora and Lincoln.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, November 19 at noon at the Camp Hill Church of God on 123 North 21st Street in Camp Hill, PA. Visitation will take place from 10:30 am to noon. The Church will be livestreaming the service on Facebook at https://m.facebook.com/CampHillChurchofGod/ at 12:00 PM. A light reception will be held after the service in the church’s gathering place to meet with the family and share in the life of a truly remarkable man. Attendees should mask in accordance with their comfort level.
